
Job Title: Project Cost Accountant
Location: Atlanta Metropolitan Area (Hybrid) or East Coast (Remote)
Our client is seeking a Project Cost Accountant to join their team. This position can be based in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area or remotely on the East Coast. Candidates in Atlanta will be expected to work on-site 2-3 days per week, while East Coast candidates will have a fully remote setup.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The Project Cost Accountant will play a key role in collaborating with the Project Management team to oversee and optimize project budgets, cash flows, and financial reporting. This position involves ensuring accurate financial management across all aspects of projects while aligning with organizational goals.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Budget & Financial Management
Collaborate with Project Managers to monitor project budgets and ensure alignment with forecasts.
Develop detailed budget-to-actual reports, identify variances, and provide actionable insights for decision-making.
Manage project cash flows by ensuring timely invoicing and accurate cash forecasting to maintain financial health.
2. Month-End Close Process
Execute critical month-end tasks, including:
Bank statement reconciliations.
Preparing bill posting reports.
Reconciling accounts receivable, accounts payable, loans, and other balance sheet accounts (e.g., Prepaids, Fixed Assets, Accrued Expenses).
Finalize and maintain the month-end closing checklist to ensure all steps are completed accurately and on time.
3. Bank Reconciliations & Invoice Processing
Supervise weekly bank reconciliations, ensuring timely entries and exploring automation opportunities for efficiency.
Review and verify correct coding of invoices and expenses within the ERP system.
4. Audit Support
Provide documentation and support for internal, external, state, and local audits as required.
5. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management
Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness in weekly runs.
Manage accounts receivable, including:
Maintaining executed contracts and change orders.
Updating milestone schedules, sworn statements, and lien waivers.
Creating industry-standard AIA-format invoices and entering them into the ERP system.
Monitoring outstanding receivables and implementing collection strategies.
6. Reporting & Documentation
Maintain organized, secure shared folders for document storage.
Distribute weekly internal accounts receivable and cash reports to keep stakeholders informed.
Qualifications, Education & Knowledge
3+ years of experience as a Project Accountant
Construction or Project/Percent of Completion Accounting experience (preferred but not required).
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
Key Skills & Competencies
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel); ERP system experience preferred.
Construction or Project/Percent of Completion Accounting experience (preferred but not required).
Experience with multi-location, multi-entity, and/or multi-state operations is a plus.
Thrive in fast-paced environments with strong communication and adaptability skills.
